GAUGE:
10 stitches + 20 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in Garter stitch (knit every row) with 1 strand of A and 1 strand of D held together. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

I love this blanket pattern idea. Instead of using all solids, I chose a variegated yarn and used 4 complimentary solid color yarns to change the sections of color. It looks awesome and by running two strands of yarn make a nice thick throw for the tv room.
