GAUGE:

20 sts and 32 rows = 4" [10cm] in Seed St. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Knit Necktie Reviewed by Corey Alexa on 2013-03-03 *****
This tie came out great, it took me forever only because I put it down for over a year. One of my friends saw it and insisted I finish. I'm glad I did, I made it for my boyfriend and he wore it out in NYC and we went to a dinner with friends and all the guys LOVED the tie (we are in our mid-twenties). Two of them even asked if I could make one for them. But I'm not sure what yarn to use now that this one is discontinued. I made it exactly as specified, the increase in that back works because it is the around the neck part. I agree that it doesn't NEED to be done, but once it's tied it doesn't look strange.
