Stitchfinder: Crochet Floral Block: Poppy Square

This generic pattern can be used with whatever yarn and hook/needle size you prefer.

Skill level: intermediate
Method of working: in the round

METHOD
Using A, make 4 ch, join with ss in first ch.
Round 1: 1 ch, 7 sc into ring, ss in first ch. 8 sts.
Round 2: 4 ch, [1 hdc in front loop of next sc, 1 ch] 7 times, ss in 3rd of 4 ch.
Fasten off A. Join B to back loop of any hdc.
Round 3: 3 ch, [2 dc in 1-ch sp, 1 dc in back loop of next hdc] 7 times, 2 dc in 1-ch sp, ss in 3rd of 3 ch.
Round 4: [3 ch, 1 tr in next hdc, 2 dtr in next hdc, 1 dtr in next hdc, 2 dtr in next hdc, 1 tr in next hdc, 3 ch, ss in next hdc] 4 times, working final ss in same place as base of first 3 ch. 4 petals.
Fasten off B. Join C to center tr of any petal.
Round 5: 5 ch, 1 dc in same tr, * 5 ch, [1 dc, 3 ch, 1 dc] in ss between petals, 5 ch, # [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in center tr of next petal, * rep from * to * twice more, then once again from * to #, ss in 3rd of 5 ch.
Round 6: Ss into 2-ch sp, 5 ch, 1 dc in same ch sp, * 5 ch, 1 sc in 5-ch sp, [3 dc, 1 ch, 3 dc] in next 3-ch sp, 1 sc in next 5-ch sp, 5 ch, # [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in next 2-ch sp, * rep from * to * twice more, then once again from * to #, ss in 3rd of 5 ch.
Round 7: Ss into 2-ch sp, 5 ch, 1 dc in same ch sp, * 5 ch, 1 sc in next 5-ch sp, 5 ch, 1 sc in next 1-ch sp, 5 ch, 1 sc in next 5-ch sp, 5 ch, # [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in next 2-ch sp, * rep from * to * twice more, then once again from * to #, ss in 3rd of 5 ch.
Round 8: Ss into 2-ch sp, 5 ch, 1 dc in same ch sp, * [5 ch, 1 sc in next 5-ch sp] 4 times, 5 ch, # [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in next 2-ch sp, * rep from * to * twice more, then once again from * to #, ss in 3rd of 5 ch.
Round 9: Ss into 2-ch sp, 5 ch, 1 dc in same ch sp, * 4 dc in next 5-ch sp, [5 dc in next 5-ch sp] 3 times, 4 dc in next 5-ch sp, # [1 dc, 2 ch, 1 dc] in next 2-ch sp, * rep from * to * twice more, then once again from * to #, ss in 3rd of 5 ch. 25 dc on each side.
Fasten off C.
