BAG
Beg at top edge with A, cast on 38 sts. Divide sts onto 4 double pointed needles (dpn), with 10 sts on each of first 2 dpns and 9 sts on each of last 2 dpn. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.
Rnds 1 and 2: With A, knit.
Note: In the following rnd, the first st of the new color is slipped at the end of the rnd and the beg of rnd marker is moved one st.
Rnd 3: With B, k to end of rnd, remove marker, sl next st as if to purl, replace marker for new beg of rnd.
Rnds 4-6: With B, knit.
Rnd 7 (Eyelet Rnd): With B, *k2tog, yo; rep from * around.
Rnd 8: With B, knit.
Rnd 9: With A, k to end of rnd, remove marker, sl next st as if to purl, replace marker for new beg of rnd.
Rnds 10-13: Rep Rnds 3-6.
Rnds 14-33: Rep Rnds 9-13, 4 more times.
Rnd 34: With B, knit.
Divide sts evenly onto 2 dpns (19 sts on each). With WS tog, using an empty dpn and B, knit tog 1 st from each needle, *knit tog 1 st from each needle, pass first st worked over 2nd to bind off; rep from * across. Cut working yarn and pull through last st to secure.
FINISHING
Top Edging
Join A with sl st anywhere on top edge, sc in same space, *ch 1, sk next st, sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Drawstring
With A, make a ch about 19 in. (48.5 cm) long, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Fasten off. Thread Drawstring through eyelet row of Bag.
CROCHET BAG
NOTES
1. Crochet Bag is worked in the rnd, from the bottom up.
2. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a rnd, as follows: Leaving a long beg tail, ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; join with sl st in first sc - 32 sc at the end of this rnd. Use beg tail to sew gap at base of first row closed. Proceed to Rnd 2.
3. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Carry unused color along WS of piece.
BAG
Beg at lower edge with B, ch 32. Being careful not to twist ch; join with sl st in first ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around; join with sl st in first sc - 32 sc at the end of this rnd.
Rnds 2-12: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Change to A.
Do not fasten off B. Carry B along WS of piece until next needed.
Rnd 13: With A, ch 1, turn, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 14: Ch 1, turn, *with A, sc in next 2 sc; with B, sc in next 2 sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. Change to B. Fasten off A.
Rnd 15: With B, ch 1, turn, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 16 (Eyelet): Ch 3 (counts as dc, ch 1), turn, sk first 2 sc, *dc in next sc, ch 1, sk next sc; rep from * around; join with sl st in 2nd ch of beg ch - 16 dc, and 16 ch-1 sps at the end of this rnd.
Rnd 17: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc and ch-sp around; join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 18: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc around; join with sl st in first sc.
Top Edging: Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, *ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc; rep from * to last sc, ch 1, sk last sc; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Flatten bag. Join B with sl st in one corner, then sl st across bottom of Bag, through both layers, to close.
Weave in ends.
Drawstring
With A, make a ch about 19 in. (48.5 cm) long, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Fasten off. Thread Drawstring through eyelet row of Bag. |
