GAUGE: 7 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

SCARF
Cast on 17 sts.
Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures about 65 in. (165 cm) from beg. Bind off.
HOOD
Cast on 38 sts.
Work in St st until piece measures about 12 in. (30.5 cm) from beg.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Center bound-off edge of Hood on one long edge of Scarf and seam. With WS facing, fold cast-on edge of Hood in half and seam for top of Hood. Weave in ends. |

Finished earlier this evening. Slight change... I didn't bin off the hood piece... I picked up 38 stitches from the center of the scarf and used a three needle bind off to join the hood piece to the scarf.
I'm very pleased with the results. It looks like the knitted hoods in the Laura Ingalls Wilder books :)
