Sweet Seed Stitch Lamb
Lion Brand® Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Merino - Martha Stewart CraftsTM/MC Extra Soft Wool Blend
GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
STITCH EXPLANATION: M1 (make 1) An increase worked by lifting horizontal thread lying between needles and placing it onto left needle. Knit this new stitch through the back loop - 1 st increased.
ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased.

NOTES: 1. Body is worked back and forth in rows on 2 double pointed needles. Once Body is seamed and stuffed, head is worked in the round from sts picked up around the neck.
2. Ears and Legs are worked separately then sewed to Lamb.
3. When working in rows on double pointed needles, wrap a rubber band around one end of each needle to keep sts secure.

BODY
With A, cast on 19 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * to last st, p1.
Row 3: K2, *p1, k1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Rows 4-15: Rep Rows 2 and 3.
Shape Neck
Note: One st is decreased at each end of Rows 16, 18, 19 and 20 to create the Lamb's neck. This decreased end of the piece is the front of the Lamb, where sts will be picked up for the head.
Row 16: P1, p2tog, k1, *p1, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2tog, p1 - 17 sts at the end of this row.
Row 17: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to last st, p1.
Row 18: P1, ssk, p1, *k1, p1; rep from * to last 3 sts, k2tog, p1 -15 sts at the end of this row.
Row 19: K1, p2tog, k1, *p1, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2tog, k1 -13 sts.
Row 20: Rep Row 18 -11 sts at the end of this row.
Bind off.
LEGS (make 4)
With A, cast on 6 sts.
Rows 1-3: Beg with a WS row, work in Stockinette st (k on RS, p on WS ) for 3 rows.
Change to B.
Cut A, leaving a long yarn tail.
Rows 4-9: With B, continue in St st for 6 rows.
Row 10: *K2tog; rep from * across row - 3 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread yarn tail through rem sts, pull tog and knot. Using B yarn tail, seam B portion of Leg. Change to A tail to seam A portion of Leg. Stuff yarn ends into Leg.
EARS (make 2)
With B, cast on 4 sts.
Rows 1-4: Knit.
Row 5: K2tog twice - 2 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread yarn tail through rem sts, pull tog and knot.
FINISHING
With cast-on end as back of Lamb, fold Body in half and sew together around all edges, leaving neck open. Stuff Lamb, using small pieces of fiberfill and gently molding Lamb with your hands as you stuff.
Head
With B, from RS, beg at bottom of neck, pick up and k 10 sts evenly spaced around neck.
Divide sts onto 3 needles, with 4 sts on the first needle and 3 sts on the second and third needle. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: K4, M1, k2, M1, k4 - 12 sts.
Rnd 3: K5, M1, k2, M1, k5 - 14 sts.
Rnds 4 and 5: Knit.
Rnd 6: K4, ssk, k2, k2tog, k4 - 12 sts.
Rnd 7: K3, ssk, k2, k2tog, k3 - 10 sts.
Stuff head lightly.
Rnd 8: K2tog around - 5 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Finish stuffing head if needed. Thread yarn tail through rem sts, pull tog and knot.
Sew Ears to head and Legs to Body. With scrap yarn, embroider straight st eyes and nose.
