Knit Ridged Cowl
Lion Brand® Superwash Merino Cashmere
GAUGE:
14 sts + 18 rnds = 4 in. [10 cm] over Ridged pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
COWL Note: Cowl is worked in one piece, in the round.
Cast on 82 (89) sts. Place marker for beginning of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnds 1-4: Purl.
Rnds 5-8: Knit.
Rep Rnds 1-8 until piece measures about 21 in. (54 cm), end with a Rnd 4. Bind off.
FINISHING Weave in ends.

The pattern says to use a gauge of 14 sts per 4", but I think that is too loose for the weight of the yarn called for (Superwash Merino Cashmere, a worsted weight yarn). The other cowl patterns using SMC indicate a gauge of 18-19 sts per 4", so I plan to use that gauge for a thicker fabric and cast on accordingly. (about 120 sts) Will probably need more yardage to acheive the same length with this tighter gauge.
