5 1/2 Hour Throw
Lion Brand® Homespun®
GAUGE: 3 V-sts + 4 rows = 8 in. (20.3 cm) with 4 strands of yarn held together. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: Throw is worked with 1 strand of each color yarn (4 strands total) held together.
Editor’s Note: When creating fringe using Homespun please note that because of the texture of the yarn the fringe will fray when cut. If you prefer a non-frayed look you can knot the ends,
knit or
crochet a fringe, or use hairspray or fray check.

THROW
With 1 strand each of A, B, C, and D held together, ch 47.
Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, ch 1, dc in same ch (V-st made), *sk 2 ch, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch (V-st made); repeat from * to last 2 ch, sk 1 ch, dc in last ch.
Rows 2–25: Ch 3, turn, (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-1 space across, dc in 3rd ch of turning ch.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
Weave in ends.
Side Edging
From right side, join 1 strand of each yarn with slip stitch at one end of long side. Work 1 row of single crochet evenly spaced along (long) side edge of Throw. Repeat on opposite side edge.
Fringe
Cut 15 in. (38 cm) lengths of each color yarn. For each fringe, hold 2 strands of each color yarn (8 strands total) together and fold in half. Use crochet hook to draw fold through edge of piece, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop and tighten. Make fringe in bottom of each V-st at bottom edge; make fringe in center of each V-st at top edge. Make fringe at corners on both ends of Throw. Trim fringe ends evenly, knotting ends to keep yarn from fraying.

| I have made two of these afghans. They work up very quickly. I used a "Q" hook rather than the speed hook. The first time I used 3 strands of homespun, but the second tine I used only 2 as I found the finished product to be very heavy with the three strands. Both projects turned out beautifully and were very cozy; perfect to snuggle up under while reading or watching tv. I used differnt colours of homespun to match the recipients decor. Homespun can be a little tricky to work with if you have to pick up only back loops ertc, but it was not an issue with the simple stich and large hook used for this pattern. The range of colours and softness of the yarn makes me come back to homespun for many projects.
