A Squishy Surprise

I was trepidatious about using such a thick boucle yarn, but once I became familiar with the nature of the yarn and how to navigate the stitches, my Dumpling Bag crocheted up quickly. I enjoyed working with this fun, squishy yarn, and I’ll definitely order it for another project!!

So soft!

The yarn is easy to work with, and so soft!

Super soft and easy

The yarn is super soft and easy to work with. I did the bucket hat in 2 hours, but the brim was shorter than I would have liked. I had enough left over in the ball to make it wider if I wanted, though.

Interesting, yet snaggy

I write this from the perspective of a loom knitter, although I imagine that a needle knitter or crocheter would have a similar experience- this yarn loves to snag. I originally bought the yarn just to see how it felt, and it does feel pretty soft! But, it does snag on things. If you have a callous or even slightly rough skin, you'll feel every fiber just grab on to you. It's not a great feeling. I don't think I would ever work this up into anything that would touch my skin, but as an art yarn for stuffed animals or decor pieces it gives great texture and pizazz. I eventually worked up some of the skein into cat toys, which came together nicely- until I went to draw the piece together. While stitches weren't (too much of) an issue, drawing through itself is. When trying to cinch the drawstrings on either end, the yarn would just continually catch on itself. I really had to work to get the yarn to eventually cinch closed. Such is the nature of a heavily textured (looped) yarn, so I can't really fault it for that. Overall, it's a fine yarn for decoration, but I don't see myself using it for anything outside of that. It's snaggy nature and the general disordered texture it creates aren't something that I usually want.
