Knitting Pals By The Bay

Dear Lion Brand,

It is difficult to put into words how Knitting Pals By The Bay has changed my life. I became aquainted with this organization last July while undergoing chemotherapy treatments for cancer.

Having cancer is a traumatizing experience in itself, but losing ones' hair makes the experience that much more difficult.

This wonderful organization gave me several knitted caps in my time of need. I was not only relieved of the insecurity that I was feeling, I was also comforted by the fact that there were individuals that really cared for cancer patients like me. This organization has used thousands and thousands of balls of Lion Brand Wool Ease, which helps a great deal with the quality and soft comfort of each cap.

These beautiful "chemo. caps" are made by generous volunteers who give their time and hard work to this project/ Headed by founder, Jenny Carp, Knitting Pals By The Bay has fifty volunteers who have created over four thousand caps for cancer patients across the San Francisco Bay area.

The project is on-going and the volunteers, or Pals, as they like to be called, consider their contributions as a gift from the heart. Many knit full-time and make each and every cap as if they were making it for themselves. The color, style, and craftsmanship of each "chemo. cap" is equal to a knitted cap that one would find in a fine department store, which makes a wonderful gift to a cancerpatient in need, and the need is tremendous.

During the holidays, the Pals use Lion Brand Fun Fur to trim red and green "chemo. caps for children and adults suffering from cancer. The Pals, who range in age from fourteen to ninety-two take great joy in each creation,
no matter what day of the year it is. They realize that they are making a difference in the lives of cancer patients.

The Pals have certainly made a difference in my life. I became a knitter, Pal,and recipient of this organization last July because of the kindnessand generosity of the Pals. I was deeply touched by what this organization was doing for me, and for other cancer patients across the Bay.

That is why I became involved. As a recipient, I was so surprised to recieve a beautiful cap. That is what started me on my journey with the Pals.

Knitting has helped to take away some of the worry and loneliness that goes along with having cancer. I also relish in the fact that my contributions and support to Knitting Pals By the Bay is helping other cancer patients like me, and I would tell anyone interested in contributing to a worthy cause to go for it.

The reward one recieves is tremendous! Knitting Pals By The Bay web-site is a great way to read more about how the Pals are helping cancer patients across the San Francisco Bay Area. The web-site address is www.knittingpalsbythe bay.org

Sincerely, your Pal,
Ana Graves
