Prem baby clothes

Hi There,
I wanted to tell you about my mum-in-law. She has been a prolific knitter for most of her life and has turned out amazing Arans for all her family and friends for years. Years ago she used to spend a couple of months in the summer with family in the Chicago area. Always she would browse your shops for lovely Lion Brand Aran Yarns and come home laden with wonderful winter warmers. Now she'll be 90 this year and with Glaucoma and macular degeneration as well as arthriticky fingers, its hard to cope with the weight and not easy to deal with sewing up! Undaunted she has been knitting tiny hats and jackets for the premature baby ward at a growing rate for about a decade now.

It all started when her daughter used to work at john Lewis, one of our big department stores, in the arts and crafts department, where the odd balls of leftover yarn were donated to the hospital for knitters to craft with. She is now turning out these tiny but beautiful rainbow coloured little gifts by the score. All for the love of knitting and to ensure the little ones who are not getting a great start in life get a little warm cuddly helping hand over their first few months of precarious life. She does it all on her own, between crosswords! The hospitals and young mums (who are of course way to busy to be knitting themselves at this time even supposing they can) are deeply grateful, and even those who can knit were not expecting to have very small babies quite so soon! I hope you'll agree that this is a great solution for all concerned!
