Caring and Sharing

Salvation Army

When I moved to Wichita, I no longer sold things at Bazaars. I dicided since I had at least as much yarn as Wal Mart had on their shelves, I would do something useful with it. In southern Az. there wasn't much need for winter clothes. In KS there is a tremendous need.

When I finally moved into a permanent place, I set about to organize my yarn so I would be able to use it in the most efficient mannor. After some searching on your site and others, I settled on a pattern for mittens and 2 patterns for hats. I also try to make at least one baby bunting.

I use 4 ply yarns, but I also use Jamie and Jiffy yarns. I alter the sizes by using different hooks and frequently use 2 strands of yarn, especially the Jamie yarns. I try to make at least 1 item a week to donate to the Salvation Army's winter clothing drive in October. So far I have done this for 3 years. This will be year 4 that I am doing this. I have been slowed down this year, by multiple surgeries and breast cancer, but I still hope to meet my goal.

The local papers here do not know about me. My friends at church and my children know what I do.

I don't know how my work has affected the people in need in this town, but I did happen to see someone wearing one of the hats I made and I must admit it made my heart smile.
I may not be rich, but I know there are people out there with much less than I have.

There, but for the grace of God and a lot of luck, go I.
