Caring and Sharing

Project Linus Blankets

My first delivery of handmade blankets, as the Coordinator for Project Linus,...was to one of the FIre Stations. I started out with 15 blankets, 11 that I made myself.

A few days later, I received a call from the public relations coordinator for the Fire Department and she shared with me that there had been a home fire, very early in the morning, and four little children were left with nothing. She was there at the scene and she said when the little little troop (about 3) was carried out, she held him and wrapped him in one of our knitted blankets. He snuggled and smiled and said, Oh, this must be a present from God". Now after three years of being the oordinator, we have made and distributed over 8,123 blankets. .. presents from God!

Also, this Chapter of Project Linus coordinates the efforts of TAPS in Washington DC, for the Memorial Day Good Grief Camp for the children of our fallen military members. Those youngsters snuggle into their afghans and blankets as they are helped , by counseling, to remember the love, celebrate the life and share the journey as survivors. The love and security that goes into these handmade gifts ...are priceless.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Mclean
