Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

Old Pueblo Knitting Guild

The Old Pueblo Knitting Guild, the Tucson, Arizona guild is an ongoing group of dedicated women who love to knit!

We have four main outreach programs that our knitters participate in:

The PREEMIE PROJECT-knitting caps, mitts and blankets for the local hospitals; over 1,000 pieces donated to date,

LINUS PROJECT--knitting afghans for children going through times of need; several dozens donated to date, PRECIOUS

PALS--knitting garments for stuffed animals that are then donated to battered women's shelters for the children who come through their doors; hundreds donated and delivered to date, and

THE NAVAJO PROJECT--children's sweaters of any and all sizes are knitted and delivered to the Navajo Indians in NE Arizona, over 1,000 sweaters knitted to date.

Lion Brand is used regularly in all of the above projects. We work with donated supplies; because of this the items are often quite colorful as there is usually not enough of one color to complete the project! OPK also is involved with the local Teenage Parent Program, helping those young moms who want to, learn to knit for their babies. Our ladies are always helping one of the above programs every day of the month!

Thank you for letting us share!
Barbara Moore,
President OPK
