Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

4-H project

I am a new 4-H leader who has been asked to teach some teens to knit, crochet and sew. I love the idea and am desperately hoping that the kids will want to do this as much as the parents want them to.
4-H is a wonderful opportunity for these kids to learn more than they know that they are being taught. This organization is a wonderful safe place for kids and they accentuate community service and giving as a big part of their program. I have been deciding on a schedule for this year, and when I came upon this site I think that I have found what I need for some of the community service projects.
I intend to have them participate with the Warm Up America project. I will challenge them to learn the yarn arts, but also to involve parents, relatives and friends to join. I am hoping that the end result will bring together families, nursing homes, and some of the organizations that need the afghans. I would like to get the kids involved with some of the people in the nursing homes to do a sewing bee when we have the squares collected to get them put together.
In the same vein, I would like to challenge them to do walker bags, hats & mittens, and preemie hats. I will let you know when this project winds up at the end of the year.
