Caring and Sharing

While so many of us love making things for ourselves and our families, many in the Lion community go further, creating for those in need. Join us in this section and be touched by these true stories of caring and sharing submitted by Lion Brand readers.

The Chesapeake Knitters is a group of about 30 women and one man that meets twice a month to knit and socialize. We have three groups that we knit for.

First is the Navy, Marine Corp Relief Society. They provide the yarn and we make baby blankets and sweaters for the newest members of the service after their parents take a class about life changes after baby arrives.

Second is for students in Chesapeake schools. We spend the year making hats to be distributed about Thanksgiving time. We give 200 - 300 hats made from whatever yarn we have in our stashes.

We also knit for a public school in south, central Virginia. It is an elementary school where many of the students are children of migrant workers. There is a great need there. For the past four years we have sent them a hundred hats a year, then last year we also sent thirty sweaters. Letters from students and kids' pictures wearing those hats and sweaters make us feel like they are appreciated.

We also knit for ourselves, family and friends. It's fun to share our lives and our knitting with friends And, oh yeah, there is usually food involved!

(I have a picture of the hats, just not on this iPad )
