For Children - "Eternal Residents of a Group Home"

Our "group therapy" a small knitting group has been meeting for 3 years now. We have been through marriages, deaths, babies, grand babies, graduations, everything together such support & encouragement. We have so much fun knitting & talking together each week. We decided to take on a project for Christmas. We knew of an Autistic group home located near the church where we meet. The "eternal children" residents of this home are sometimes a forgotten group of folks. We desired to add a little love and texture to their lives. We found a pattern for scarf & hat from Lionbrand & each of us Knitted a hot & scarf, using different types of lionbrand yarn. We then each brought items the resident could use such as socks, coloring books and crayo ns, puzzels, & stuffed animals. We compiled a gift bag for each resident & took it to them during the Christmas holidays to their group home. They absolutely loved it. They are so in tuned to toudc & feel. After staying a short time we noticed as we were leaving all of the 'special residents" had on their scarves & hats & were cuddeling a stuffed animal. We found out the next week that several of the residents refused to take their hats off that night & slept in them! Their care takers wrote our knitting group a thank you note & the residents signed it.
What a warm feeling it gave to each of us to know we had made something which thers special people had enjoyed so much. It wasn't much, but it was from our hearts, & it did make a difference for these few forgotten folks!
We enjoyed this so much, I am sure we will do something similiar again next year.
