My Mother

My mother was diagnosed with cancer on Christmas Eve, 2005. Not knowing this ahead of time, I had crocheted her a prayer shawl as her gift. She chose to attend a hospital for chemotherapy that was well over 150+ miles one way. She was small to begin with and as she advanced in her therapy she became extremely frail. Each treatment took approximately 3 days overall and she used the prayer shawl to cover herself, to wrap herself, and to comfort herself. She would stroke it and remember the love crocheted into each stitch. It became to her what it's name implies. My mother passed away in January 2007, just a little over a year from her prognosis. Her desire had been to see one more Christmas with her family. Her prayer shawl symbolizes her faith and how much comfort she took in it.
