"If My Shawl Could Sing"
Created By: Chris Wolf
Five years ago, I received a prayer shawl from a friend, filled with prayers and blessings, as a gift. I visited her and met many of her knitting friends. We were driving back to her home when I said, “I think you need music to knit by. Wouldn’t it be great to have music to inspire and stir your prayers?” She stopped the car on the highway, looked at me and said, “Would you do that for us?” I was taken aback, and the moment passed. But then songs, lyrics, and pieces of melodies began waking me. I wrote them in a binder or sang them into a hand-held recorder. Some of these stories are mentioned in the booklet enclosed with the CD.
At every step of this project, it has been very evident that God has big plans for this CD. It is almost as if it had “legs” of its own. I have been shown who to work with. I’ve been sent incredible national musicians who got involved and are still praying for this project. This is so much bigger than me-it is truly incredible to see God at work. The lives he touched even as it was being made speak volumes about who God is and what he wants for us. The many, many ways he has moved this CD into our hands has been extraordinary.
For example, I had 9 songs written and sitting in my basement. “Now what, Lord?” I asked. Then in the course of 24 hours, two people mentioned how a recording studio in Minneapolis had just been remodeled. Recording studios are not a usual topic of conversation in my life. The second person had the engineer’s phone number in her purse! What a deep breath I took before that telephone call. “Hello, I don’t know you, but I think God told me to call”. The engineer didn’t think the phone call was unusual, met with me, and took the project immediately. He said he sensed something too.
I'd be happy to send you a complimentary CD of "If My Shawl Could Sing", just released 3 weeks ago. It has already started spreading across the country; I've had people sending them to missionaries in Australia and Singapore. I'm excited to see where this CD will go next! I’d welcome a phone call from you or a writer if you think that this is newsworthy. I hope you will check out the website at www.shawlmusic.com.
