My Passion for Knitting and Crocheting
Created By: Jo Martin-Adams
I was ten years old when my Uncle and Aunt came for a visit. As we sat visiting, she was crocheting something. It fasinated me and she asked me if I wanted to learn how to crochet. She taught me a few basic stiches and a way I went. When I was 11 years old I decided that I wanted to learn how to knit. My mother bought me a "Learn How To" booklet and I taught myself how to knit. My first "real" project was a lap robe that I made for my grandmother. My mother bought me two skeins of pale green and two skeins of pink Aunt Lydia's rug yarn. It was cheap! I knitted two panels in each color, crocheted them together and crochted a border around the whole thing. I was quite proud of my project. That was in 1965 or 66. In 1976 my beloved grand mother passed away. In 1981 when my grandfather passed away I got that lap robe back. When I saw it, I told my mother "I know Grandma loved me". It was the ugliest thing I had ever seen. It had big holes knitted into it. You could tell that my grandmother used that lap robe, it was well worn. I will always cherish that lap robe. Because of her love, it has inspired me to knit and crochet with love. I am always giving something handmade for wedding, anniversary and new baby gifts. I will probably die with either a hook or needles in my hands!
