Knitting Heals the Heart
Created By: Kay Moretti
I was taught how to knit at the age of nine. Being involved in an abusive situation at home; my neighor, Lorraine, taught me the basics. I began to knit little blankets, etc. This venture became a place of solice for me and calmed my heart.
As the years went on, and many sweaters, scarves, hats, ponchos, etc. later; I began selling my sweaters at our grocery store. They became a hit and I was inundated with orders.
I needed to share my talent and began to teach little girls in my neighborhood the craft and found I had a real talent at teaching.
Three years ago, my only child, my son Jason died suddenly at the age of 27. Naturally my life was shattered and no peace was found. It took me one year to pick up my knitting needles again and found that I could give away some love to other mom's who lost children. I started knitting ponchos, scarves, baby items, etc. and I spent hours making them and mailing them out. I called my creations random acts of Jason (love).
I am now back to knitting all the time and just know that I have blessed so many people with gifts made from the heart. Knitting has also helped me to begin to heal from my grief and keeps my mind and soul in tact.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story.
P.S. when I fly, I knit like a madman, as flying has become one of my "not so favorite things to do"..
