That Crazy Day in 2004
Created By: Anna Johnson

One day while working alone in administration, I felt a very sharp pain in my right side. Now sometimes you get those sharp pains and they go away. This one just kept getting worse and worse. Finally, someone came by and I told them to call 911. I was wheeled away to emergency (oh those beautiful paramedics). Anyways, I ended up staying in the hospital for five days with a bleeding kidney.

While I was there, the whole office that I worked in had sent me a care basket. In it was about 10 skeins of sandy colored yarn and a pattern to make an afhgan. This was my life saver. During my stay at the hospital, I started a blanket while laying on my back. Between sleeping and morphine and visitors, I had this afhgan to keep me from going crazy in those hospital walls.

I still have that afhgan. When I look at it, I remember those wonderful people in my office and how theraputic crocheting can be. I still crochet and practice my knitting stitches.

Since 2004, I have lost one kidney and I have ten percent left of the other one. I am doing great!! No longer able to work, I stay home and work on my hobbies and of course, at the top, you guessed it, crocheting!!
