Knitting for the military in 1940
Created By: Hannelore Lubben
During the 2nd world war my mother had to knit socks and gloves for the soldiers in Germany and since we learned to knit in grade 2, my sister and I had to knit the socks and gloves for my mother.
In the late 1970's we bought a hobby farm and raised sheep; that is when I started processing and spinning wool for knitting or weaving. I am glad that I learned knitting socks when I was 7 years old and I still knit socks, only instead of using 5 double ended needles I knit the socks on a circular needle. Much easier and faster. I am glad that I was forced into knitting socks at an early age; now I knit socks and I also can read books while knitting them.
