Both of my children were preemies. When the...
Created By: CONNIE JUHL

Both of my children were preemies. When the second baby came along, and was even smaller than the first, we were living on an Air Force base in Germany. Nothing fit him and there was someone at the nursery window making fun of my little boy.

After that I started knitting little hats for all preemies. I make about a dozen and drop them off at a local hospital. Now that we are retired from the Air Force and living in Lansing I make the little hats all the time and take them to several hospitals. I love to just give these little things away. Knitting keeps my blood pressure down and it's just a great little take-along hobby for the car.

I use Lion Brand baby yarn for the little hats. They are very simple....on a 12" round Size 6 needle you cast on 56 stitches. You K1,P1 for 4" and then just keep knitting for another 5". When you have 9" you take decrease every 14 stitches till there are only 39 stitches on the little round needle. Then with a blunt end needle I take off the stitches and pull it up and sew it. I then make a small pom-pom for the top. Easy as pie.
All little babies , rich or poor, should have a little hat as that is the first gift any little baby receives. I'm now a grandmother and love knitting for my grandson and great nieces and nephews as well.
Sincerely
Happy Knitting
Connie Juhl
