A Mix of Crafts
Created By: Vera Abbott
Back in the 60's and 70's I had 5 children to clothe and care for, and not much money. Not much in the way of talent either! I was on government assistance, and it was a struggle to keep the kids in suitable clothes. My mother had never taught me how to do much, so anything I learned was from books, and observation. I decided to learn to knit, and learn I did, making scarves, toques, socks and mitts for the kids, as well as learning how to darn the holes in sweaters.
As the kids grew older the knitting became less. My youngest, my only daughter, and I decided to learn to crochet. And learn we did. My daughter can do the finer things like curtains, doilies, toilet sets and afghans. I do afghans and doll dresses. I still occasionally do mitts and scarves and toques. It's amazing how time flies by when you're working on a project, and if you're feeling down it really helps to watch a project flow from your fingers.
Yes, knitting and crochet have really made a difference for me, and now I'm going to be doing something for "WarmUpAmerica"....blankets and anything else I can do...both in knit and crochet.
I'm so glad I learned these crafts!
