Prayer Shawl Ministry

I belong to the First United Methodist Church of San Benito, TX. After reading the book "Knitting Into The Mystery", we started our Prayer Shawl Ministry in October 2005. With approx. 8 to 10 knitters/crocheters (women & men), in 18 months we have presented 167 prayer shawls. We love using the Lions Homespun yarn. The shawls are so soft and they bring so much warmth and love to our recipients. Most of the shawls have been given to those who are ill, hospitalized, homebound or going through one of life's many trials. We have given shawls to many in our local community but also throughout the United States too. It is our way of sharing God's love with many people. There is a blessing not only for the recipients but also for the knitters. We pray for those who will receive each prayer shawl and have a blessing service prior to presenting the shawl. It is a powerful ministry and God is using us to share the message of His love.
