My Sweet Mother
Created By: Joanne Peyton
In February, 2005, my mother suffered a massive stroke and passed away nine months later. She was a talented artist, wonderful mother, and such a loving soul. Two months before her death I met Millie, who's son is a friend of mine. She was 93 years old and knitted all day to pass the time. So I decided to pay her a visit so she could teach me how to knit an afghan for my mother while she was in the wheelchair. Unfortunately, my mother never saw it. I was so consumed with sadness, but my knitting with Millie was great therapy and kept me going. Since then I haven't stopped. I've made hats for the troops in Iraq, and donate all my other scarfs and hats to shelters. I paint and quilt, but knitting is the most relaxing and therapeutic hobby I know. Millie is 95 years old now, and we still do our thing when I'm not working.
