I had to laugh when I saw this. How did knitting...
Created By: Elle Snider

I had to laugh when I saw this. How did knitting change my life? The fact I'm here to write this, pretty much says it all

In April of 2003, we moved from a city with over 2 million people in it to a town of less than 7,000. I had a major lifestyle change, the nearest shopping was sixty miles away.

By February 2004 I was literally contemplating (suicide, I just couldn't take the lack of anything to do anymore. The solitude was getting to me. You can only watch cows and chickens for so long. I had sunk into a deep abyss of depression that I just couldn't shake.

I had a friend online who knitted and always talked about Lion Brand and the sock she was knitting, (which fascinated me). Another online buddy and I decided to learn to knit. So, I made the journey to pick up some size eight needles and one skein of yarn and taught myself. To this day I remember how excited I was to see actual Lion Brand Yarn!

Slowly, with each stitch and each project, I regained part of myself. It took me forever to figure how out to purl. I drove 120 miles round trip. once a week for a month to learn how to make a sock. I discovered there was a world of yarn out there that was not pure acrylic. Since the beginning, I have figured out my absolute favorite yarn is wool-ease and I can pretty much substitute it for anything!

I knit for myself and my family, I give things away. I have taught others to knit and have sent yarn when times were tough for others. I discovered the world of knitters and how nice they are. Knitting forms some sort of bond between people, somewhat like the stitches in a project.

It's now 2007 and we live in another major city and I still knit like there is no tomorrow, even though I know there is. I find now that knitting gives me peace and satisfaction. I find solace in making the stitches and watching the project grow.

I find it ironic and surprising that knitting does this for me because years ago, my mother tried to teach me and I had no patience for it. How little we know when we are young!

So, if we look at the basics, if it hadn't been for Lion Brand and my friends sock, I wouldn't be here to write this. So, thank you Lion Brand...you really are a lifesaver!
