Crocheting is a gift
Created By: Jenny Wiese
I first learned how to crochet from my grandma when I was about 7. She gave me an old scratched up crochet hook and some butcher string and taught me how to "chain". I made the longest chain EVER and finally she taught me how to single crochet. I remember making pot holders for EVERYONE after that. :)
Over the past 37 years, I've perfected the craft and have moved on to much more than potholders! :) Mainly, I make gifts for people: afghans, sweaters, scarves, edged socks, baptismal gowns, baby items, toys, etc.... Recently, I joined the prayer shawl group at church and the last couple I did felt like true GIFTS. When I look around my house, I really don't have anything that I'VE made. I give almost all of it away!
I feel blessed when I crochet. My favorite person in all the world showed me how to crochet and even though she passed away almost 10 years ago, I can feel her when I sit and crochet. It makes me feels relaxed and I feel like I'm passing lots of love on to the person who will receive it. My grandma, Elizabeth, lives on in my work and I honor HER with each and everything I make.
