I used this pattern and redid the colors to all shades of blue, green, teal (and one grey thrown in) because they wanted a "manly" baby blanket - I think it worked well. Very simple pattern once I figured out how the fill in part worked. I added two rows of single crochet as an edging in my two lightest colors to give it a little more body, as I found the portions of the hexagons that stuck out to be too floppy. I think it worked well and can't wait to gift it.
