Each square is worked from the bottom up and then seamed together to form the body of the bag. The straps are the worked directly onto the body. While I haven't had a chance to make this Halloween tote bag, I have looked at the pattern and materials. The yarn is good quality and the colors are just as pictured. The tote is made with single crochet and the pattern includes both written directions and a diagram for each square. I am excited to make this cute bag.

The yarn that came with it was great! DIYarn worked very well for the bag.

I ran out of purple halfway through the first candy corn border... I recommend buying 2, not 1.
Same thing with the orange.
Pattern was well written and easy to understand. I’m not a huge fan of how the straps turned out on the bag part but nothing to do with the actual product. If I knew how to do graphs better I would have a picture.
Difficult to get proper gauge. I am a highly experienced crocheter and usually don't need to adjust for gauge but you will run out of yarn if your gauge is off. The instructions omit some of the seaming steps. The recommended technique for joining gives an ugly exposed seam. I made the entire bag three times to get look I liked.
Hello Helen - this particular kit is quite close on yardage, since the designer was able to make it with a single skein of each color and we didn't want to add extra yarn that you may not need (and therefore increase the cost of the kit!).
