I remember the old knitting books my mother used to have, so this is definitely a nostalgic book for me. I love the ideas in the book and am eager to knit or modify a number of the patterns. The sale price was extraordinary, too. The book's a delight. Thanks for reproducing it!
Lots of fun to review patterns and model pictures and to see popular fashion of the past. A little difficult to read the patterns though.
So many different vintage options. I have a little trouble reading some of the patterns. Has great pictures to help.
I'm a bit of an antique-pattern nerd, so this book is an INVALUABLE resource. Original 1916 patterns + modern binding = perfect.
NB: modern knitters will have to translate some of the abbreviations (for example, N means "narrow", which we understand now as K2tog). American knitters in particular should take care with needle sizes. Page 135 of the book gives a list of yarn weights, and I've learned that "4-fold" is what we would now call worsted weight. Yarn also used to come in small quantities such as 2 oz. balls, so keep that in mind too. The differences may seem confusing at first, but I promise the research is worthwhile when you hold in your hands an item that your great-grandmother might have knit!
This is a really amazing book. The copy right year was 1916 and ALL the patterns and pictures reflect that. If you love history and fiber arts you will LOVE this book. The patterns and pictures are all in the original wording/descriptions and there are NO CHARTS/GRAPHS so buyer be aware. You may also want to remember, the sizing, tools, yarns are all different from a century ago and if you are looking to make anything in this book you may want to consider purchasing LB book "Vintage Styles for Today" which is also on sale at the time of my review 7/21/2022, they cover all the differences and have great suggestions for yarn and tools substitutions, as well as, info on the updated terminology and sizing. Both books have wonderful, original pictures, which are in black and white. It is a bit difficult on my eyes (I have cataracts) with the original type, but, nothing a good magnifying glass can't remedy. Happy I purchase this book, love seeing how the styles have changed through the past century! Thank LB, great history you've shared with your customers...
The book is okay. I just expected a little more. The print is very small and light.
