Small petals 
Cast on 8 sts, leaving an extra-long end for finishing. 
1st row (WS) P. 
2nd row K. 
3rd row Bind off 4 sts, k to end. 4 sts. 
4th row K4, turn, cast on 4 sts by cable method. 8 sts. Repeat 1st–4th rows 7 times, ending with a 3rd row. 4 sts. Do not break yarn. 
Medium petals 
Next row
 K4, turn, cast on 6 sts. 10 sts. 
*1st row (WS) P. 
2nd row K. 
3rd row Bind off 6 sts, k to end. 4 sts. 
4th row K4, turn, cast on 6 sts. 10 sts. Repeat 1st–4th rows from * 5 times, ending with a 3rd row. 4 sts. Do not break yarn. 
Large petals 
Next row
 K4, turn, cast on 8 sts. 12 sts. 
**1st and 3rd rows P. 
2nd and 4th rows K. 
5th row Bind off 8 sts, k to end. 4 sts. 
6th row K4, turn, cast on 8 sts. 12 sts. Repeat 1st–8th rows from ** 5 times, ending with a 5th row. Do not break yarn. 
Work 10 more medium petals, ending with a 3rd row. 4 sts. Bind off. 
Finishing 
Beginning at the cast-on edge and reverse St st to the outside, coil petals, securing them as you go.
