Knit Flower: Clove Carnation

An earlier version of this pattern included a typo that has been corrected. 

Flower 
Using A, cast on 51 sts. 
1st row (RS) k1, ssk, * k2, [k1, yo, k1] in next st, k2, s2kpo; repeat from * 4 times, k2, [k1, yo, k1] in next st, k2, k2tog, k1. Change to B. 
2nd row P. 
Continuing with B, work 1st row again. 
Change to A, work 2nd and 1st rows. 
Change to B, work 2nd and 1st rows. 
Change to C, work 2nd and 1st rows. Using crochet hook, continue with C. 
Bind off row St st in first st, ch 3, sl st in same st, * sl st in next st, ch 3, sl st in same st; repeat from * to end. Fasten off. 
Stem 
Using D and double-pointed needles, cast on 4 sts. Make i-cord (click here for directions) 1 inch long. 
Cup 
Continue with 4 double-pointed needles: 
1st round Kfb 4 times. 8 sts. K 5 rounds. 
7th round K in front, back, and front of each st. 24 sts. Bind off. 
Finishing 
Keeping points of chevron together, roll lower edge of flower tightly, curving outer row ends down and stitching in place. Sew on cup, using yarn ends to fill it out. 

Stitch explanation: s2kpo - slip 2 stitches as if to knit together, knit one, pass slipped stitches over
