Stitchfinder: Knit Floral Block: Forget Me Not
This generic pattern can be used with whatever yarn and hook/needle size you prefer.
Advanced
An unconventional mixture of crochet and knitting makes this three-dimensional flower, with its background radiating from the center in four sections.
METHOD
Yarn DK wool in sky blue (A) and lime green (B)
Equipment A pair of knitting needles and a crochet hook
FLOWER
Center
Using crochet hook and A, make 5ch, join with ss into a ring.
1st round (RS) 6ch, [1sc in ring, 5ch] 7 times, ss in first ch of 6ch. 8 ch loops.
Do not fasten off, do not turn.
Slip loop from hook and on to a knitting needle, the needle pointing left to right.
First petal
Cast on 5 sts by the cable method. 6 sts.
* 1st row (RS) K6, pick up and k one st from ch loop below. 7 sts. Turn.
2nd row K5, k2tog. 6 sts.
3rd row K6, pick up and k one st from same ch loop. 7 sts.
4th row As 2nd row.
5th row As 3rd row.
6th row As 2nd row.
7th row Bind off 5 sts knitwise. Do not turn, do not break yarn. **
Second petal
Pick up and k one st from next ch loop, slip 2nd st on needle over first st. Slip remaining st on to lefthand needle then cast on 5 sts as before. 6 sts.
Work as first petal from * to **. Make 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th petals as 2nd petal.
Eighth petal
As 2nd petal to 6th row.
Bind off 6 sts knitwise.
Fasten off.
Join yarn end to base of first petal.
Pin out petals and press.
Turn flower to WS.
BLOCK
First quarter
Working into the front of the sc around the center ch ring and using B, [pick up and k one st in each of the 2 strands that form 1sc] twice. 4 sts. Turn.
1st row (RS) [Kfb] 3 times, k1. 7 sts.
2nd row P.
3rd row Kfb, k to last 2 sts, kfb, k1. 9 sts.
Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 6 times more. 21 sts. P1 row.
Bind off knitwise.
Work 3 more quarters in this way, noting that in the ch that stands for the first sc it will be necessary to pick up one st in the ch and one st in the ch ring.
Making up
Join the quarters with mattress stitch, taking in half a stitch from each edge. Press.
