Pattern Designer Information
Jennifer Renaud is a self-taught crafter, of a variety of different crafts and mediums. Her latest passion has been crocheting! Just over a year ago, we moved up to God's country where the winters can be really long. I needed something to do to pass the time and keep me warm, crocheting was just that "thing"! I found that making blankets for wedding gifts, also helped to keep me warm during the day.

Had Problems Understanding Pattern

There are patterns that I have no problems following, patterns I struggle with but can figure out & then they're those that I just cannot do. This one I got to a point where I just could not understand it at all. The layout of the pattern got super confusing when I got to "Front Upper Center Panel Armhole Shaping". The alternate double crochet directions (both regular and the decrease) are confusing. I was stuck for weeks and just finally (with husbands' permission) just gave up. I quit. Crocheting shouldn't be that aggravating. Also, I didn't care for how open & airy the dc stitches were despite using a smaller hook size than instructed. They don't look that open in all the photos. An experienced pattern reader may have better luck than I did. I just found it confusing and muddled. And my hubby wears a large and the middle was just too big so I had frogged and started over & switched to the medium size after getting to the front upper panel shaping. And my hubby has a belly on him so was surprised the Large was too big.

Check the size

After a few tries for size I had no trouble making this sweater. I started out with the medium pattern after measuring the recipient and found it too big on him so I settled for the small which fit perfectly after I reduced some rows in the length. I wish I had made the bottom ribbing wider like the cuffs but it didn't matter in the long run. The collar was easy and came out great. I also ordered extra yarn after reading one of the reviews.

Difficult and recommendation of yarn was off

Much more difficult pattern then I anticipated and I did not receive enough yarn to finish my project. Reading the notes of the pattern, author states that they are a tight crocheter, so I decided to size down my pattern even though I had purchased a larger size. (Hoping this would leave me with extra yarn just in case) Then the original pattern wasn't complete, it was missing the sleeve direction. It was updated and I received the new pattern in my email, but I only had a skein and half left to finish the sleeves. I'll have to order another two skeins just in case!

Hi Ariel - thank you for your feedback! We'll take a look at the yarn amounts for this kit.
