Sweets Afghan

Lion Brand« Modern Baby«

GAUGE:

20 sts + 28 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Knitted Cord (on double pointed needles) Working with 2 double pointed needles, cast on specified number of sts. Knit the sts. Do not turn work. *Slide sts to other end of needle and knit them, pulling yarn tightly across the back of the work, (do not turn work); rep from * until cord measures desired length.

Surface Chain Stitch
Thread needle and bring from back to front through piece. *Hold short length of yarn on front forming a small loop. Insert needle back into where it last came out, do not pull tight. Bring needle back through work and through small loop; repeat from * until chain is desired length.

NOTES:

1. Afghan is worked back and forth in rows on a circular needle as if working on straight needles. The circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts.
2. Charts are worked in intarsia colorwork. Use a separate ball of yarn for each color section and twist yarns on WS to prevent holes. Do not carry color not in use across WS unless the distance is just a few sts.
3. When working from Charts, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS), and read RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right.
4. Some repeats of charts are worked in different colors than indicated on chart. The second repeat of the Teacup Chart will be worked in stripes as indicated on chart; the first repeat will work lower stripes all in same color changing to a second color on the last stripe. The first repeat of the Doughnut and Cookie Charts will be worked in colors as shown on charts, the second repeats will be worked with a different color.
5. Garter st (knit every row) borders are worked in one piece with the Afghan.
