Inviting Times Pullover

Lion Brand« Homespun® Thick & Quick®

GAUGE:

8 sts + 12 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

CDD (Centered Double Decrease) Sl 2 sts together as if to knit, k next st, pass sl sts over st just knit – 2 sts decreased.

PATTERN STITCHES
K1, p1 Rib worked in rows (worked over a multiple of 2 sts + 1 additional st)
Row 1 (RS):
*K1, p1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rows.

K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (worked over a multiple of 2 sts)
Rnd 1:
*K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.

NOTES:

1. Pullover is worked in 4 pieces, Back, Front, and 2 Sleeves.
2. After shoulders are seamed, stitches are picked up around the neck to work the neck edging.
3. When you see 'work even' in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.


PULLOVER
Back

With smaller straight needles, cast on 43 (47, 51, 55, 59, 63) sts.
Beg with Row 1, work in K1, p1 Rib for 2 in. (5 cm), end with a WS row as your last row.
Change to larger needles and work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures 17 in. (43 cm) from beg, end with a WS row as your last row.
Shape Armholes
Bind off 3 (5, 6, 7, 8, 9) sts at beg of next 2 rows - 37 (37, 39, 41, 43, 45) sts rem.
Next Armhole Dec Row: K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1.
Next Row: Purl.
Rep last 2 rows 1 (1, 2, 3, 3, 4) more times - 33 (33, 33, 33, 35, 35) sts rem.
Work even until armholes measure 7 (7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2) in. (18 (19, 20.5, 21.5, 23, 24) cm), end with a WS row as your last row.
Shape Shoulders
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Bind off rem 11 (11, 11, 11, 13, 13) sts for neck.

Front
Work as for back until piece measures same as back to armholes, end with a WS row as your last row.
Shape Armholes
Bind off 3 (5, 6, 7, 8, 9) sts at beg of next 2 rows - 37 (37, 39, 41, 43, 45) sts rem.
Divide for Neck
Next Row (RS):
K1, k2tog, k12 (12, 13, 14, 15), k2tog, k1, join a 2nd ball of yarn, k2tog, ssk, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1 - 16 (16, 17, 18, 19) sts on each side.
Note: Before continuing, read carefully through the next section of the pattern.
You will now be working in St st on both sides of the Front using a separate ball of yarn for each side and AT THE SAME TIME shaping the armholes and the neck.
Purl one row.
Neck Dec Row (RS): K1, k2tog (armhole dec), work to last 3 sts of first side, k2tog (neck dec), k1; working second side with separate ball of yarn, k1, ssk (neck dec), k to last 3 sts, ssk (armhole dec), k1.
Continue in St st, working armhole decs same as for Back AT THE SAME TIME rep Neck Dec Row every other row 3 (3, 3, 3, 4, 4) more times - 11 sts on each side after all decs have been worked.
Work even until armholes measure same as for Back, end with a WS row as your last row.
Shape Shoulders
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows.
Bind off rem 3 sts each side.


Sleeves (make 2)
With smaller straight needles, cast on 21 (23, 23, 25, 25, 25) sts.
Beg with Row 1, work in K1, p1 Rib for 2 in. (5 cm), end with a WS row as your last row.
Change to larger needles.
Next Row: K1, kfb, k to last 2 sts, kfb, k1.
Next Row: Purl.
Work in St st for 4 rows.
Rep last 6 rows 3 (3, 4, 5, 6, 7) more times - 29 (31, 33, 37, 39, 41) when all increases have been completed.
Work even until piece measures about 19 in. (48.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row as your last row.
Shape Cap
Bind off 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows - 23 (25, 27, 29, 31, 33) sts.
Next Row: K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1.
Next Row: Purl.
Rep last 2 rows 2 (3, 4, 5, 6, 7) more times - 17 sts.
Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows - 9 sts when all bind offs have been completed.
Bind off.


FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Neck Edging
With RS facing and circular needle, beg at left shoulder seam, pick up and k16 (16, 18, 18, 20, 20) sts evenly spaced along neck edge to center of front neck, pick up and k 1 st at center of neck, mark this center st, pick up and k 16 (16, 18, 18, 20, 20) sts evenly spaced to right shoulder seam, pick up and k 14 (14, 14, 14, 14, 16) sts evenly spaced along back neck - 47 (47, 51, 51, 55, 57) sts. Place marker for beg of rnd (Note: Use a different color marker than the marker placed at center of neck) and join to work in the rnd.
Dec Rnd: Work in K1, p1 rib to 1 st before center marker, remove marker, CDD, replace marker in this new center st, work in K1, p1 rib to end of rnd - 45 (45, 49, 49, 53, 55) sts.
Rep Dec Rnd 3 more times - 39 (39, 43, 43, 47, 49) sts rem.
Bind off in rib, working CDD over 3 center front sts before binding off.
Sew in Sleeves. Sew side and Sleeve seams.
Weave in ends.
