Snow And Sunsets Afghan

Lion Brand® Amazing® - Fishermen's Wool®

12 1/2 hdc + 9 rows = 4 in. (10 cm).
One Block measures about 8 x 8 in. (20.5 x 20.5 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

1. Afghan is made from 30 identical Blocks.
2. Following the Assembly Diagram, Blocks are sewn into strips, then strips are sewn together to make Afghan. Turning the Blocks in different directions, following the diagram, creates the pattern on the Afghan.
3. Border is crocheted around the outside edge of the completed Afghan.
4. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops to complete st. Fasten off old color.

BLOCKS (make 30)
With A, ch 27.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch does not count as a st) and in each ch across - 25 hdc at the end of this row.
Rows 2-6: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in each st across.
Change to B.
Rows 7-12: With B, rep Row 2 six times.
Change to C.
Rows 13-18: With C, rep Row 2 six times.
Fasten off.

The arrow on each Block points from first row to last. Sew Blocks together turned in the directions shown on the diagram.
Following Assembly Diagram, sew Blocks into 5 strips of 6 Blocks each. Sew strips together to make Afghan.
Rnd 1: From right side, join C with a sl st anywhere along outside edge of Afghan. Work sl sts evenly spaced around entire outside edge of Afghan; join with sl st in first sl st.
Rnds 2-5: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), hdc in each st around, working 3 hdc at each corner; join with sl st in first hdc.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Snow And Sunsets Afghan Reviewed by Charmaine Sylvia on 2015-01-19 ****
I decided to make this because it would make me sew motifs together.
The squares are very easy, I could do one in about 15 minutes. It was also very portable. I used Amazing Ruby, and Wildflower, and Fishermen's Wool in Natural.
I discovered that the picture and the Diagram are oriented differently which caused me some confusion.
I like the results a great deal, it's light and warm.
