Knit Baby Mitts
Lion Brand® Jiffy®
GAUGE: 16 stitches + 20 rounds = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch worked in the round (knit every round). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
NOTES: 1. Mitts are worked in the round on double pointed needles. 2. Length of Mitt is easily adjusted by working more or fewer rounds. 3. Yarn amount is sufficient to make multiple pairs of Mitts. 4. For a fun shower gift, consider making 3 Mitts - a pair and a spare!

MITTS (make 2) Note: Because the Mitts are so small, we chose to use only 4 of the needles in our set of double pointed needles. Cast on 18 stitches. Divide stitches onto 3 double pointed needles with 6 stitches on each of the needles. Place a stitch marker for beginning of round. Join by working the first stitch on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right and needle and being careful not to twist the stitches.
Ribbed Round: *Knit 1, purl 1, repeat from * to end of round. Repeat Ribbed Round 4 more times. Change to Stockinette stitch worked in the round (knit every round) and work until piece measures 3 in. (7.5 cm) from cast on edge. Next Round: *Knit 2 stitches together; repeat from * around. You will have 9 stitches at the end of this round. Next Round: Knit. Next Round: Knit 2 stitches together 4 times, then knit last stitch. Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Weave tail through remaining stitches, pull tightly together and knot.
FINISHING Weave in ends. |
