USA Afghan

Lion Brand® Hometown USA®

GAUGE:

7 hdc = 4 in. (10 cm);
One square = 14 x 14 in. (35.5 x 35. 5 cm).

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

NOTES:

1. Afghan is made from 9 Squares; 5 of Square 1 and 4 of Square 2. The Squares are sewn together following the Diagram.
2. Yarn color is changed on every other row.
3. Instructions are given to fasten off the old color when changing yarn color. If you prefer, carry unused color along side edge of work. Then, when sewing Squares together, be sure to include the side with the carried yarn strands in a seam.

SQUARE 1 (make 5)
With B, ch 26.
Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (beginning ch counts as first hdc) and in each ch across - 24 hdc at the end of this row.
Row 2: With B, ch 2 (counts as first hdc in this row and in all following rows), turn, hdc in each st across.
Fasten off B.
Row 3: With RS facing, join A with sc in first st, sc in each st across.
Row 4: With A, ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Fasten off A.
Row 5: With RS facing, join B with sl st in first st, ch 2, hdc in each st across.
Row 6: With B, ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across.
Fasten off B.
Rows 7-22: Rep Rows 3-6 four more times.
Note: There should be 6 stripes of B and 5 stripes of A.
Fasten off.

SQUARE 2 (make 4)
Rep Rows 1-22 of Square 1 using C instead of B.

FINISHING
Sew together following the Diagram.
Weave in ends.

i would lkie to make a correction for hdc, you really need to begin with 26 ch. s that when you turn your hdc the first time you will end of up 24 stitches across to work with. I am crocheting this right now.
