Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 sts, (sc, ch 2,
sc) in next ch-2 sp, sk next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 sp,
sc in last 3 sts 10 sc and 2 ch-2 sps at the end of this row.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, *sc in each sc to next ch-2
sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp; rep from * once more, sc in each sc
to end of row 14 sc and 2 ch-2 sps at the end of this row.
Rep last row 1 (2) time(s) 18 (22) sc and 2 ch-2 sps at the end

Row 5 (6): Ch 1, turn, *sc in each sc to next

Note: Work now proceeds in joined rnds, worked

Border
Rnd 11 (14): Do not turn, working in ends of rows
across straight edge, work 20 (26) sc evenly spaced across edge;
working in sts of last row, (sc, ch 2, sc) in first sc, sc in each
st to last sc (sc, ch 2, sc) in last sc; join with sl st in first
sc 44 (54) sc and 2 ch-2 sps.
Rnds 12 (15)13 (17): Ch 1, working in back loops
only, *sc in each st to next ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp;
rep from * once more, sc in each sc to end of rnd; join with sl st
in first sc 52 (66) sc and 2 ch-2 sps at the end of Rnd 13 (17).
Fasten off.
MANE
Notes:
- Mane is worked with WS of Base facing, and
yarn held on RS of Base.
- Working yarn is wrapped around piece of
cardboard or a credit card to create loops on RS of Base.
Wrapping around cardboard or a credit card ensures that mane
loops are all the same size.
Mane Row: Working from WS with 2 strands of B
held tog on RS of Base, work across sts of Row 8 (11), insert hook
from WS to RS through first st; leaving a long tail (to weave in
later), yarn over and draw loop through to WS, *insert hook in
next st, wrap working yarn around 22 1/2 in. (56.5 cm) piece of
cardboard or credit card and then over hook, draw loop through to
WS, tightening the yarn around cardboard or credit card (mane loop
made), then draw loop through loop on hook; rep from * across row.
Fasten off. Remove loops from cardboard. Draw yarn tails to WS of
Base.
Note: Adjust thickness of Mane by working more
than one mane loop in some of the sts, as desired.
Rep Mane Row over sts of Row 7 (10).
EARS (make 2)
With A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 11 dc in 2nd ch from hook; join with
sl st in top of beg ch. Fasten off.
TIES (make 2)
With RS facing, join A with sl st in one front corner of Base, *ch
37 (47), sl st in each ch back to beg sl st. Fasten off *.
Rep on opposite front corner of Base.
FINISHING
Sew Ears to Base in front of Mane. Weave in ends. |
