Ribbed Hat And Scarf

Lion Brand® Vanna's Colors

GAUGE:

12 sts = 4 in. (10 cm) in pattern STRETCHED.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

Hat and Scarf are both worked back and forth in rows.

HAT
Note: First and last sts of every row are selvedge sts.
Cast on 58 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K1, *k4, p3; rep from * to last st; p1.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 10 in. (25.5 cm) from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Crown (Top of Hat)
Row 1 (RS): K1, *k1, k2tog, k1, p3; rep from * to last st, p1 - 50 sts at the end of this row.
Row 2: K1, *k3, p3; rep from * to last st, p1.
Rnd 3: K1, *k3, p1, p2tog; rep from * to last st, p1 - 42 sts at the end of this row.
Row 4: K1, *k2, p3; rep from * to last st, p1.
Row 5: K1, *k2tog, k1, p2; rep from * to last st, p1 - 34 sts.
Row 6: K1, *k2, p2; rep from * to to last st, p1.
Row 7: K1, *k2, p2tog; rep from * to last st, p1 - 26 sts.
Row 8: K1, *k1, p2; rep from * to last st, p1.
Row 9: K1, *k2tog, p1; rep from * to last st, p1 - 18 sts.
Row 10: *P2tog; rep from * to end of row - 9 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull to gather. Knot securely.

FINISHING
With remaining yarn tail, seam hat. Following package directions, make a medium size pom-pom. Tie pom-pom to top of Hat.
Weave in ends.

SCARF
Cast on 32 sts.
Row 1: K4, *p3, k4; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 until nearly all remaining yarn has been used.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
