GAUGE:

6 1/2 dc = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Cowl is worked in joined rnds. At the end of each rnd, join last st to first st with a sl st.
2. If you find it difficult to join the beg ch into a ring without twisting the ch, Rnd 1 can be worked as a row, then joined into a rnd, as follows: Ch 42, dc in 4th ch from hook (beg ch counts as dc), dc in each ch across; join with sl st in top of beg ch. Proceed to Rnd 2. When weaving in ends, use the beg tail to sew the ends of first row together.
