Felted Soap Cozy With Acorn

GAUGE: Exact gauge is not essential to this project.
STITCH EXPLANATION: kfb (knit into front and then back)
An increase worked as follows:
1. Knit the next st through the front loop, but do not remove the st from your left hand needle.
2. Knit the same st once more, this time inserting your needle through the back loop of the st. You will have created 2 loops (sts) on your right hand needle.
3. Drop the st from your left hand needle - 1 st increased. |
NOTES: 1. Materials are sufficient to make multiple Cozies.
2. Due to the nature of the felting process, the size of your finished Cozy may vary.

COZY
With A, cast on 30 sts.
Row 1 (RS): P7, k1, p14, k1, p7.
Row 2: K7, p1, k14, p1, k7.
Rep last 2 rows 11 more times.
Last Row: Rep Row 1.
Bind off.
ACORN
With B, cast on 5 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Kfb in each st to end of row - 10 sts at the end of this row.
Rows 2-4: Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS).
Row 5: K2tog, k6, k2tog - 8 sts at the end of this row.
Change to C.
Rows 6-9: Work in Rev St st (p on RS, k on WS) for 4 rows.
Row 10: K2tog, k in each st to last 2 sts, k2tog - 6 sts at the end of this row.
Row 11: Purl.
Rows 12 and 13: Rep Rows 10 and 11 - 4 sts at the end of Row 13.
Row 14: (K2tog) twice - 2 sts at the end of this row.
Row 15: P2tog - 1 st at the end of this row.
Fasten off.
FINISHING
With RS facing, place Cozy on bar of soap, with knit ridges at the sides. Sew center back seam. Sew top and lower edges closed. Sew Acorn to front of Cozy.
Weave in ends.
Felting
Fill sink with hot water. Put on rubber gloves. Hold Cozy with one hand, rub surface of fabric with your other hand. Work over entire surface, lathering until sts begin to lose their definition. Rinse gently to remove soap residue. Allow to dry. Cozy will continue to felt as soap is used. |

| This was very quick and easy to knit together. I made my 'prototype' out of acrylic yarn so I could time how fast they will be to make for christmas gifts. Going to get some wool and knit a bunch of these.
