SMALL HANGER
Knotting
You will have 4 groups of A strands. Divide each of these groups in half to make 8 groups (illustration 2).
Using one A strand, wrap and knot around one group of strands for 8 1/2 in. (22 cm). Repeat for remaining groups.
Rearrange strands to make 4 groups. Wrap and knot around each group for 6 in. (15 cm).
With 4 A strands held together, wrap and knot around all strands for 4 in. (10 cm) (illustration 3).

NOTES:
1. Photos show knotting in a vertical position, with yarn strands hanging from a hook. If desired, you may wish to work on flat surface.
2. Photos are for how to only. The Hanger pictured does not match the color combinations in this pattern.
3. Use binder clips or clothes pins to keep groups of yarn strands untangled while working.
4. You will need to anchor the Planter hanging loop onto a stationary object. One suggestion would be to slip a dowel through the hanging loop, then slide the dowel ends between the handles of two kitchen cabinets.
5. After the initial knot with a group of strands, wind the remaining length of the strands in a figure-8 around your thumb and little finger to create a yarn 'butterfly'. Slip the butterfly off your fingers and secure the center with a rubber band. Unwind the yarn from the butterfly as needed.
6. Hide the yarn ends by threading each end into a blunt needle, then weaving the end into the Hanger.
SMALL HANGER
Cutting
Cut yarn strands as follows:
From A, cut 16 strands each 14 ft. (4.5 m). These are strands A.
From B, cut 6 strands each 30 ft. (9 m) (strands B); 2 strands each 10 ft. (3 m) (strands C); and 2 strands each 40 ft. (12 m) (strands D).
Knotting
Hold all strands except C in a group. Fold in half and hang over a hook.
Tie C strands to the group of strands on the left side of the hook, 3 in. (7.5 cm) down from fold (photo 1). Slide this knot over the hook and onto the group of strands on the right side of the hook.
Bring the C strands around the group of strands to create a '4' shape. Bring C strands behind group of strands and through the open space of the '4', to form a loop. (photo 2).
Pull gently to tighten strands and create a knot (photo 3).
Continue wrapping and knotting in this way for 8 in. (20.5 cm). The knots will spiral around the strands (photo 4).
Anchor the hanging loop as described in Notes above.
Using longest strands (D strands), continue wrapping and knotting over the strands for 6 in. (15 cm).
Divide strands into 4 groups (illustration 1). With 2 of the D strands, wrap and knot around 2 of the groups for 20 in. (51 cm). With B strands, wrap and knot around remaining 2 groups for 20 in. (51 cm).
One at a time, thread end of each B, C and D strand into blunt needle. Hide yarn end in strands following Note 5 above.
You will have 4 groups of A strands. Divide each of these groups in half to make 8 groups (illustration 2).
Using one A strand, wrap and knot around one group of strands for 8 1/2 in. (22 cm). Repeat for remaining groups.

From B, cut 4 strands each 44 ft. (13.5 m) (strands B); and 4 strands each 50 ft. (15 m) (strands C).
Knotting
Hold all strands except C in a group. Fold in half and hang over a hook.
Tie C strands to the group of strands on the left side of the hook, 3 in. (7.5 cm) down from fold (photo 1). Slide this knot over the hook and onto the group of strands on the right side of the hook.

Rearrange strands to make 4 groups. Wrap and knot around each group for 6 in. (15 cm) (illustration 3).
Knot all strands together, then trim ends of strands to make tassel. Tassel shown in photo is about 20 in. (51 cm) long.

oh wow, macrame ! now that does bring back lots of memories ! use the photos if you're a beginner; it's really pretty easy once you get the hang of it .Wrap, knot, wrap...
be patient, it's fun once you get into it, and satisfying to see your plants hanging around happily :)
