GAUGE:

16 sts + 7 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Shell Pattern When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

V-st (V-stitch) (Dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or ch-sp.

NOTES:

1. Pullover is worked from the top down.
2. Rows/rnds of V-sts (dc, ch 1, dc) are worked alternately with rows/rnds of Shells (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc). V-sts are worked into every ch-1 sp of previous rows/rnds (including the ch-1 sps between Shells). Shells are worked into the ch-1 sp of every other V-st of previous rows/rnds, every other V-st is skipped.
3. Increases are used to shape the raglan armholes. Markers are placed at front and back of each armhole (in ch-1 sps) to mark where raglan increases (Inc V-st) are worked. Move the markers up as each row is worked.
4. Work is divided at the underarms, then body and sleeves are worked separately in the rnd.
5. Read through instructions carefully before beginning, making note of specific instructions for your size.
