GAUGE:

18 sts + 26 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm) over pattern st. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in the pattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from person to person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

COWL
Note:
The stitch pattern on this Cowl is attractive on both sides - Cowl can be worn with either side facing out.
Cast on 224 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: Knit 1, purl 1; rep from * around.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until piece measures about 11 in. (28 cm) from beg.
Bind off.

Thermal Knit Cowl Reviewed by Amy Morfeld on 2012-02-20 *****
I knitted up only 4 skeins of this cowl neck as I ordered this yarn for a different project. However, it came out great and I wear it all the time. I used ivory and added beadwork to mine to make it my own. It's nice how something so simple can keep the neck so warm. I just love it and hope to make my sister one as a surprise. The K1P1 routine can get tiresome but it is worth it. I recommend this pattern, very rewarding to wear something you have made!
