Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.
hdc2tog (hdc 2 together) Yarn over, Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 4 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over; yarn over with new color and draw yarn through all loops on hook to complete st.


BACK
With A, ch 50 .
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 48 sts.
Rows 2-5: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in each st across, change to B in last st.
Rows 6-31: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in each st across.
Row 32: Ch 2, turn. Hdc2 tog twice, hdc in each of next 40 sts, hdc2tog twice – 44 sts.
Row 33: Ch 2, turn. Hdc2 tog twice, hdc in each st to last 4 sts, hdc2tog twice.
Rep Row 33 until 8 sts rem.
Fasten off.

FRONT LOWER SECTION
With A, ch 50.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across – 48 sts.
Rows 2-5: Ch 2, turn, Hdc in each st across, changing to B in last st.
Rows 6-26: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in each st across.
Fasten off.

FRONT UPPER SECTION
With B, ch 50.

Row 7: Ch 2, turn. Hdc2 tog twice, hdc in each of next 40 sts, hdc2tog twice – 44 sts.

Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around – 30 sts.
Fasten off.
Trunk
With C, ch 5.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 4 sts.
Rows 2-15: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across
Row 16: Ch 1, turn. 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st.
Fasten off.

SMALL TREE
Top
With A, ch 10.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next 2 ch, hdc in each of next 3 ch, dc in each of next 2 ch, work 5 dc all in last ch; working along opposite side of foundation ch, dc in each of next 2 ch, hdc in each of next 3 ch, sc in each of rem ch.
Fasten off.
Trunk
With C, ch 6.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to last, dc in last ch.
Fasten off.

BIRD
With C, ch 8.
Rnd 1: Work 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, sc in each ch to last, work 5 hdc all in last ch; working along opposite side of foundation ch, hdc in next ch, sc in each of rem ch.
Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each of next 4 sts, hdc in next st, 2 hdc in each of next 3 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, 2dc in each of next 2 sts, hdc in next st, sc in each of rem sts.
Fasten off.
Wing
With A, ch 4.
Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, 2 sc in the last ch.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st to last, 2 sc in the last st.
Fasten off.

FINISHING
Sew Trees to Lower Front section. Sew Wing to Bird. With A, embroider a French knot eye on Bird. Sew Bird to Lower Front section. With A, embroider a straight st beak.
Lay Back onto a flat surface with wrong side facing. Lay Front sections, with Upper Front slightly lapped over Lower Front, on top of Back section, with right side of Fronts facing.
Join A with slip st at beg of A section. Working through all layers, sc evenly spaced around A section to join Back and Front. Fasten off.
Join B with slip st and join remaining edges of Back and Front, leaving last row (8 sts) at top of Holder open for hanger hook.
Weave in ends.

Was really easy to make. Mine didn't look quite as nice as the picture, but I am not a pro either. Didn't do the decal work, just left it plain in one color. I think it would make a great housewarming gift.
