Beehive Potholder

Exact gauge is not essential to this project.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

sc2tog (sc 2 sts together) Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.

NOTES:

Work in continuous rnds; do not join or turn unless otherwise instructed.

HIVE (make 2)
With A, ch 21.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 20 sts.
Rows 2-20: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 21: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 16 sts, sc2tog – 18 sts.
Row 22: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 14 sts, sc2tog – 16 sts.
Row 23: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 12 sts, sc2tog – 14 sts.
Row 24: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 10 sts, sc2tog – 12 sts.
Row 25: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 8 sts, sc2tog – 10 sts.
Row 26: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in each of next 6 sts, sc2tog – 8 sts. Fasten off.

DOOR
With B, ch 5.
Rnd 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 ch, work 4 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of foundation ch sc in each of next 2 ch, work 2 sc in last ch.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 4 sts, work 4 sc in next st, sc in each st to last, work 2 sc in last st. Fasten off.

BEE (make 2)
With B, ch 2. Work 6 sc in first ch. Fasten off.

BEE WINGS (make 4)
With C, ch 2. In first ch, work 2 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 2 sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING
With wrong sides of Hive pieces held together, and working through both thicknesses, join A with a sl st anywhere along outside edge. Work sc evenly spaced around to join pieces. At end of rnd, join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off. Join B with a sl st at top of Hive. Ch 12 (for hanging loop), then join with sl st to beg ch. Fasten off. Sew Door to Hive. Sew Bees to Hive, then sew 2 Wings to each Bee. Weave in ends.
