GAUGE:

11 dc + 5 rnds = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:

1. Work dc into sps between sts, rather than into top of sts.
2. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete the stitch. Do not cut old color, carry color not in use up wrong side of work.

LUNCH BAG
Base
With A, ch 3; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), work 11 more dc in ring; join with sl st in sp between beg ch and next dc – 12 sts at end of rnd.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in same sp as join, *2 dc in next sp between sts; rep from * around; join with sl st in sp between beg ch and next dc – 24 sts at end of rnd.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, turn, dc in same sp as join, dc in next sp between sts, *2 dc in next sp between sts, dc in next sp between sts; rep from * around; join with sl st in sp between beg ch and next dc – 36 sts at end of rnd.
Rnd 4: Ch 3, turn, dc in same sp as join, dc in next 2 sps between sts, *2 dc in next sp between sts, dc in next 2 sps between sts; rep from * around; join with sl st in sp between beg ch and next dc – 48 sts at end of rnd.
Rnd 5: Ch 3, turn, dc in same sp as join, dc in next 3 sps between sts, *2 dc in next sp between sts, dc in next 3 sps between sts; rep from * around; change to B in last st, join with sl st in sp between beg ch and next dc – 60 sts at end of rnd.
Shape Side
Rnd 6: With B, ch 3, turn, (do not dc in same sp as join), *dc in next sp between sts; rep from * around; change to A in last st, join with sl st in sp between beg ch and next dc.
Rnd 7: With A, rep Rnd 6, change to B in last st.
Rnds 8-17: Rep Rnds 6 and 7. Fasten off A at end of Rnd 17.
Rnd 18: Rep Rnd 6. Do not change to A in last st. Do not fasten off B.
Shape Handle
Row 19: Continue with B, ch 3, turn, dc in next 10 sps between sts – 11 dc at end of row.
Rows 20-30: Rep Row 19. Note: Take care to work the first dc in the sp between the first and 2nd dc of the previous row, and the last dc in the sp between the last dc and the turning ch of the previous row.
Fasten off B. Join A with sl st in last st of Row 30.
Rows 31-33: With A, rep Row 19. Fasten off A at end of Row 33.
Skip 19 sps, along top edge of bag, following first handle. Join B with sl st in next sp and work 2nd handle same as first.

FINISHING
Tie
Join B with sl st in top edge of Bag, centered between Handles. Ch 20. Fasten off. Work a 2nd tie opposite the first. Weave in ends.
